Identity-Affirming Books and Text Selection Tool

  • Review Learning and Assessment goal from the YRDSB Equity Strategy
  • Review of School Improvement goals, including student and educator look-fors
  • Short video on texts as mirrors, windows and sliding glass doors - texts can be used for many purposes to create inclusive environment
  • Short video on YRDSB Text-Selection tool - questions to guide the selection of texts
  • Shared a variety of example books
Vote on funds for Classroom Libraries at next meeting

Crossing Guard

  • Current job posting open since Dec. 2024, no applicants
  • Town of Richmond Hill says usually filled y someone in the community - we need to share the flyer generously
  • Discussion about concerns with double parking, students crossing, cars pulling into parking lots
  • Voted for a Safety Blitz, groups of volunteers to hand out small flyers

Extra copies of flyer in office for members to pick and post on end of mailboxes to help promote

 

Chairs to send email to volunteer list and arrange for Safety Blitz for as soon as possible

Financial Report & Requests:

  • Aram shared that as of September 2025 we have approximately $52,900.00 in our account
  • $23,013 has been approved for new investments
  • $22,340 in lunch account. This will change once invoices have been paid
  • $2,705.40 for Grade 8 Graduation - currently in account
  • Approximate $20,000.00 balance left from beginning of year

Wish List items:

  • 2 Tech Carts for storage and charging - each cart holds 24 spots - replacing 1 cart in school and adding another for new class that opened
  • Funds for Board Games Club - students of ages benefit

Action/next steps

  • Chess has been cancelled by the Vendor and postponed to January 2026 and will issue refunds
  • Engineering Kids is up and running. Both sessions are sold out.
  • Act 1 will be part of the winter session and will be doing Wizard of Oz

Armita to look for more programming for the Winter

 

Robyn to confirm which days are available to run winter lunchtime programs

Lunch Deliveries:

  • Session 2 - November 17 to January9: Monday: KidsKitchen

    Tuesday: Pizza Wednesday: Astoria Thursday: Yamato Friday: Booster Juice

BBQ & Fun Fair

  • BBQ will take place on June 11, 2026
  • Golden Star has been booked
  • Committee meetings to start in February 2026
 

Family Fun Night

  • Family Fun Night will take place on January 29th from 6 to 8 pm
  • First meeting will be on December 10 from 7 to 8 pm (virtual)
  • Will need approximately 15 adult volunteers for the event
  • High School students to volunteer as well
  • Asked for a budget of $500.00

Grade 8 Graduation

  • Grad Committee is running smoothly and fundraising has begun
  • Graduation Date: June 17, 2026
  • Fundraising: Looking at Candy Cane and Poinsettia
  • Next meeting November 25th

Movie Nights

  • Student Voice will be hosting2 movie nights this year: December 11, 2025 and March 26, 2026
  • Need volunteers to help with both nights
Marisa & Monique to create a google form to request volunteers

Teacher Appreciation Lunch

  • Soha will be the committee chair
  • Looking for ideas to change the lunch provider
  • Any new ideas to be emailed to Soha

Charity/Donation Drive

  • Student Voice will be hosting a toy drive
  • Student Voice or Council to host a food drive in Spring 2026
 

Other Ideas/Suggestions:

Parent Teacher Interview Night

  • Council to have a booth set up to go over initiatives, what we do, what we have done, future events and recruiting volunteers
  • Posters and flyers are available from last year
Marisa and Monique to plan and create survey for parents re: events at school

Next Meeting: December 1st, 2025 (hybrid)

A council photo will take place at the next meeting
